SUPERGIRL Season 2 Episode 19 Review: Alex

While things are on the up and up with Kara, Maggie seems to be getting increasingly upset with her. Supergirl swoops in on a hostage negotiation and saves the day. At a double date with Mon-El, Kara and Alex, Maggie seems annoyed at Supergirl always saving the day making her practically obsolete. This brings the dinner to an early close as Kara and Mon-El take off.

Alex goes after them but never arrives. Maggie shows up at Catco the next day when she doesn't come back. While she's there, Kara gets a call from a mysterious man who knows her true identity and threatens to kill Alex if she doesn't release an inmate, Peter Thompson.

Maggie works with the DEO to find a way to save Alex. Kara gets too heavy handed interrogating Thompson, but they still don't find anything about from him. Lucky for them, Winn uses his skills to find out that despite the fact there is no record, he has a son who used to go to school with Kara and Alex. Kara hurried to the address of Rick Malverne who had cameras set up to show Alex Iocked in a plastic prison. Despite her threats, Rick refuses to let her go until Supergirl breaks out his father.

Supergirl brings him to the DEO. Maggie gets him to talk. He confesses that he knew Kara was Supergirl when she walked away from a car accident that she saved a family from when she was a teenager and that wants to rescue his father, like he rescued him from his abusive mother. Yes, we all have issues. Doesn't give him an excuse for crime.

After they fail to trick Rick using Hank to shift into his father, they think they get a break when Winn tracks down Alex. Alex cut out her tracking device and connected to the camera so they can find her using the IP address. However, when Supergirl arrives she finds that the timer has sped up and water has started flowing into Alex’s prison with only 4 hours left.

Maggie blames Kara for them running out of time and is even goes to get Peter out of prison when his son convinces her. Time is running out as Alex is trying to find a way to escape and makes a floatation device out of her pants. Supergirl arrives at the prison to stop Maggie and convince Peter to tell them where Alex is.

They arrive just in time for Supergirl to literally punch Alex out before she drowns. They bring her safely back to the DEO where everyone rejoices at her return and giving Rick a black eye for kidnapping her. Home sweet home.

Through the whole ordeal, Rhea has been pushing her way into Lena’s company. Her business proposal including using alien technology to help with climate change, help with third world countries, etc. All great things that are most likely not the reason why she's doing this and even gives her a sob story about her son abandoning her.

Between Rhea ‘thanking the Gods’ at their dinner and Lena seeing an element of her plan not on earth, she deduced that Rhea is an alien and whatever her plan is, it's not good.

Rhea comes back and tries to convince Lena to forgive her and work with her to create the Transmatter portal. Despite how smart Lena is, she doesn't see through this and agrees to her plan. And I was rooting for her.

I'm glad to see more of Maggie’s personality coming out here. She's a good cop and obviously takes it to heart. Though it's a little convenient that Rick decide to spill his sob story, but she still knows how to use whatever information she gets.

With so many episodes centered on, of course, Supergirl, it's nice to see Alex be the focus. The only reason that Maggie and Kara actually worked together was because they loved her so much that they had to put aside their differences.

It feels like the decline of another Luthor as Lena seems to be taking Rhea’s advice. It wouldn't be surprising if their relationship and the possible discovery of Kara as Supergirl becomes the reason for her hating aliens as well.
