SUPERGIRL Season 6 Episode 1 Review: Rebirth

After the filming of season 5 was abruptly cut short by a small little worldwide pandemic, Supergirl picks up immediately where we left off. Quick recap, Lex has all the Leviathan members, Brainy is dying of radiation, Lena finally decides to join the good guys and help take down the craziest Luthor.

We begin this episode with Brainy dying from an overdose of radiation in the Leviathan ship. Nia finds him in time for him to tell her the only way to destroy Leviathan is with Lex. She’s unable to save Brainy alone as Gemmahas survived because she’s a technological being. Luckily, the super team arrives and saves Brainy and Nia. This allows them to destroy Gemma using the anti-life equation Brainy made.

In Lex’s bunker, he obtains the powers of all the Leviathan Gods thanks to help from his mother. He plans to use Obsidian VR with his satellites to make sure everyone loves him and will be submissive and appreciative to every one of his moves. Oh, also he wants to kill the people not using VR and do the same for other planets. Needless to say, Lex is getting ambitious again.

Lena pretty much fills them in that this is his plan and Dreamer reiterates that she dreamed Lex as the anti-monitor, destroying all the planets. J’onn and M’gann believe they could destroy the satellites all at the same time using a Martian ritual called The Binding.

This is the least of their troubles. They still need to reverse the brainwash on the VR users. Kara decided to trust Lena to reverse this problem. In addition to that, they need to make Lex mortal again. Dreamer believes her dream also led her to Jarhanpurium, a substance that is lethal to members of Leviathan. They split up.

Supergirl offers herself up as bait to Lex, but he’s certainly feeling his new immortal status and doesn’t see her as a threat. Supergirl along with Lena and Alex arrive at the Fortress of Solitude. They leave when they get their tools but Supergirl is left to face Lex alone.

J’onn and M’gann successfully destroy all the satellites while Lena and Brainy use myriad to restore the VR users back to their pre-brainwashed selfs. Otis and Lillian, however, are waiting for Dreamer and Alex but they successfully kick their ass and retrieve the Leviathan canister. The minions disappear but the team has won this round.

Lex, of course, isn’t playing fair with Kara. He goes on boasting about how her plan won’t work as he tortures her with Kryptonite. He walks away from her seemingly lifeless body and isn’t aware that Lena set up a protocol to be activated when they’re achieved their mission.

While Lex starts playing with the Fortress’s toys like a child in a candy shop, Kara’s body soon recovers thanks to Lena’s suit. He is quickly surrounded by the rest of the super team including Supergirl. Although they all battle him using their exclusive skill sets, none of them can weaken him with his newfound immortality. Just as Alex is able to shoot him with Jarhanpurium, Lex targets Supergirl with a protector and sends her to the phantom zone.

Lex is successfully his mortal self but Suoergirl is lost within the Phantom Zone with no way to locate where she is or how they could bring her back. J’on and M’gann bring Lex to his cell with the intention of bringing his brother, Mal, to help them locate Kara.

Andrea, after being rebuked by her father for ruining their company, decides to use his computer to buy all of her shares leaving her with only Catco. This is lucky for her because with Lex being arrested and William using Eve’s testimony as an article, this will keep Catco right on top. That was pretty smart, I’ll give her that.

Luckily, Nia is quick to cover for Kara at Catco and give her an alibi until they can find her. On the upside, she and Brainy seem to have fully made up after making him promise to stop keeping things from her and the team.

Lena doesn’t seem to be fully done with her family. She portals into Lex’s cell, where Lillian is berating him, and uses Myriad to erase the identity of Supergirl’s alter ego from their memory.

The team seems to be solid minus their Kryptonian leader. They defeated Lex but they lost Kara, possibly forever. They’re just as dedicated to fighting evil as they are to finding Kara, which is good because the last thing we see is Kara in the phantom zone being surrounded by some weird alien dementor like things. Gross. With the loss of Kara, they’re going to need to step up, and with Alex taking on the role of vigilante and ans going by the name Sentinel, it looks like they may be able to hold the bad guy of National City at bay, for now.
