SUPERGIRL Season 2 Episode 17 Review: Distant Sun

Kara and Mon-El have made up and gotten back together after the hijinks of the Flash crossover event. Although they are not exactly bored. Kara is still without a job but Supergirl has been busy taking down unfriendly aliens. J’onn is busy as well when gets word from the President who tells him to not engage the Daxamite ship still in orbit (still containing Mon-El’s parents).

The latest alien that she captures turns out to be a alien bounty hunter and she's the target of a large bounty with a reward big enough to buy a planet. Mon-El suspects that his parents put the bounty on Kara and meet with him to ask them remove it. They deny that they had anything to do with it and still implore him to come home.

Kara isn't happy about hiding until they can find more information on the bounty so Winn and James try to distract her with games. When Mon-El comes to join them, he is take over my another alien bounty hunter and is forced to fly off with Kara.

Without being in control of his body, Mon-El tries to kill Kara until Winn actually saves the day by threatening the telepathic bounty hunter….with a stapler. Say what you want about Winn, he's much smarter than that guy.

They capture him and are about to set Alex lose when J’onn intervenes. He uses his own powers to get the alien to crack. Queen Rhea did set the bounty like Mon-El believed. Kara convinces Mon-El to go and visit his mother with her and get the bounty taken off.

They meet at the fortress of solitude with Queen Rhea. Kara’s speech about Mon-El’s life on earth doesn't take to Rhea. In fact, it seems to just make her angry and she slices Kara’s cheek with a Kryptonite sword and tries to kill her. Mon-El steps in and agrees to go back home if she takes the bounty off Kara and leaves them alone.

Mon-El arrives back on the ship and it's revealed that his father, Lar Gand, knew nothing about the bounty. Mon-El even seems close to getting his father to see how they should change the way the rule before his mother comes in locks him in the dungeon. She's looking more and more evil by the minute.

Kara, although still weak from Rhea’s attack, refuses to let Mon-El sacrifice himself. She pleas with J’onn who eventually caves. With Winn’s help, they use the portal that sent them to slaver’s moon to send J’onn (initially disguised as Kara) and Winn on the ship.

J’onn distracts evil Daxamite mom while Winn rescues Mon-El. Kara comes just in time as they try to take out J’onn. La Gand finally ends the fight by allowing his son to go home with his new family.

Throughout the episode, Alex meets an Maggie’s ex, Emily, and they invite her to dinner. That doesn't work out as Emily stands them up. Alex confronts Emily about it and she reveals that Maggie cheated on her. Alex is more upset that Maggie didn't tell her the truth. This eventually sorts itself out. Maggie has as many problems as Alex and it's helping to even the couple out.

In case the audience has forgotten, the president isn't the woman she claims to be. After ending her video call with J’onn she shifts back into her alien form. I'm sure this will somehow pertain to Cadmus.

If that wasn't enough of a reminder, the ending shows that Rhea was upset with her husband for letting their son go. So upset that she stabs and kills Lar Gand. Damn. I'm glad that Terri Hatcher seems to be sticking around for a while. She's a great actress and is bringing a good villain to the table for Kara. Especially now that it's sure to come out that she killed Mon-El’s father. All in a day’s work for an evil queen
