SUPERGIRL Season 2 Episode 16 Review: Star-Crossed

Picking up on the last episode, we see that Kara is dealing with her unemployment by rushing through her Netflix queue with Mon-El. Their date night is interrupted by his parents declaring (through the television) their intentions of taking Mon-El back from his “kidnappers” by force if necessary.

Mon-El plays dumb until Supergirl is attacked by the mysterious ship. He agrees to go up and meet the invaders, but Supergirl goes with him where they meet his parents. Mon-El surprised to see his parents alive, but Kara is just as shocked to find out that he is the prince.

During an incredibly uncomfortable dinner (with numerous jabs against each other’s culture), Kara manages to keep her cool even though it's clear that she's seething on the inside. Cat’s out of the bag now.

The truth comes out that Mon-El escaped because his bodyguard got him out, while leaving everyone else to perish. Kara escapes from the dinner from hell and Mon-El follows her to plead his point, which she is not having.

Meanwhile, Winn is in some trouble of his own. After getting freaky with his girlfriend in the museum, a Van Gogh has went missing with him as the only suspect. Maggie releases him to the DEO so they can try and track down Lyra. Just as I was starting to root for them.

Kara avoid talking about Mon-El and instead is cornered by the queen. She tells Kara to convince Mon-El to go back home, picking up on her anger at Mon-El for lying to her. After talking with the queen, Kara tries to talk to Mon-El into going back to his family and his home planet. Something she isn't able to do.

Winn finds Lyra with James and Alex. They capture Lyra and the painting but her fellow goons take off. Lyra tells Winn that she had to con him to pay back her brother’s debt to the gang before they kill him. Winn wants to help her and seemingly helps her against the other's permission. However, when they fail to fool the alien art dealer, Guardian and Alex following by half a dozen DEO agents come in for backup.

Just when you think that Kara might forgive Mon-El, especially after his pleading and his declaration of love, she ends it with him.

He returns back to the ship to tell his parents that despite Kara breaking up with him, he refuses to return to his previous life. They let him go back to earth, begrudgingly.

Rounding off the first part of the crossover (of course at the very end), we see a new villain called the Meister get “captured” by the DEO before working his crazy eyes on Kara who faints. He then disappears into another dimension claiming he has to go chase down the fastest man alive (aka The Flash). We see that in Kara’s state of unconscious she sees herself in a 1920s style club and being pushed on stage. This should be interesting.

It's understandable why Kara would be upset by Mon-El’s lying about his parentage and escape. However, given that he and his family left their subjects (who they treated like crap) to save themselves, it make sense he would want a new start without the weight of his bad decisions. Who knows what the future will hold for them?

I hope they'll be bringing back Mon-El’sn parents. It would be such a waste of great actors for them to only come on for one episode. I have a feeling that they don't plan on letting Mon-El and Kara live happily ever after anyways.

Speaking of dysfunctional couples, I hope that Lyra sticks around. It will suck if she leaves. Her and Winn could have a great storyline considering their conflicts and inter species problems.

Here's looking forward to what will hopefully be a good musical episode on the next THE FLASH!
