DOCTOR STRANGE: Wong Will be an Instructor and Master Not a Manservant

When Marvel Studios cast actor Benedict Wong for the role of Wong in DOCTOR STRANGE there's wasn't much information available regarding how the character would be portrayed. In the comics, he is Dr. Stephen Strange's assistant, sidekick and/or manservant; any of these ways of describing him works.

But in today's society this is not a very politically correct way of looking at this role, not to mention a very un-Disney-like way to present the character to the general audience. So the character is being adapted to fit into modern times.

Wong spoke with the website DenOfGeek discussing the changes to his character in the movie.

“I’m certainly not going to be the tea-making manservant. We’re heading in a different direction... There isn’t any martial arts for Wong in Doctor Strange actually, he’s more of a drill sergeant to Kamar-Taj. He’s one of the masters of sorcery.”

Sounds like Wong will have quite the presence and will probably be a source of aggitation as Strange goes through his training to become the Sorcerer Supreme. DOCTOR STRANGE releases stateside on November 4.
