Disney is doing Star Wars right by signing on a former original trilogy writer for future films

By Daniel Wolf

When the announcement was made that Disney had bought Star Wars and Lucasfilm, there were an equal amount of excitement and grumbles. The excitement was for the obvious reason of more movies coming (and coming fast) and the grumbles were because some don't have faith in Disney (for reasons unknown since Marvel is going very strong under the mouse).

Disney is already on the right track when they confirmed that Oscar-winning writer Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3) has already written Episode VII. Arndt has been a huge Star Wars fan his entire life as well.

Even though no director has been attached to Episode VII, Disney is already looking toward Episodes VIII and IX and have signed on two writers (per The Hollywood Reporter)—one of which should get even the most hardcore Star Wars fans giddy.

Former Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and Raiders of the Lost Ark screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan is one of the writers who is signed on with Disney. The other is Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, X-Men: First Class).

If fans are not excited about an original trilogy screenwriter coming back to the movie universe he helped write, then you might want to reconsider your Star Wars fandom altogether.
