Why Not Lando? No Star Wars Episode VII for Billy Dee Williams, at least for now

A couple weeks back, The Daily SuperHero created the "Why Not Lando?" image seen to the right and it is slowly spreading across the Internet. With Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher all publicly saying they are interested in returning for Star Wars Episode VII, no one was talking about Billy Dee Williams' Lando Calrissian. So we started it.

Now it seems to have gained some traction now that TMZ caught up with Williams and asked him the question The Daily SuperHero (and every other fan) has been wondering.

According to TMZ:

"I told [Billy Dee] I was a huge fan and worked at TMZ. I asked if I could film him for the show and ask about the new Star Wars trilogy, but he declined.

So I said, 'that’s cool … but everyone is dying to know, has anyone reached out to you about being in the new film?' He said, 'No.'
So I said, 'Well if the new trilogy is based on the same characters from the movies you were in, do you wanna be in it?”
And he said, 'I suppose so.'"

What it interesting is that Disney has not reached out to Williams. At least not yet. But, as seen recently, the Internet can sometimes influence a studio into reaching out to an actor who wasn't on their radar. This happened with the rumor that actor Mark Walhberg was targeted to star in Transformers 4, which was false but then director Michael Bay reconsidered and went out and signed Walhberg.

Maybe this will happen with Lando and the "Why Not Lando?" campaign carries on. Unless this is really a sign that Disney is not going to cast any original actors and it will indeed be a movie with a new Lando, Luke, Han and Leia who are much younger.
