For Some Reason Fox Still Thinks a GAMBIT Movie Will Start Filming Year

Sorry, but not-sorry for this headline since we've heard this before many times over the past few years. Fox still thinks they will start filming the long-in-development-purgatory GAMBIT movie, according to producer Simon Kinberg (via Variety).

“We have a script that we love — that Channing loves. We’ve met with a bunch of directors in the last couple of weeks, and we’re hoping to actually pick one in the next couple of weeks and shoot the movie maybe the end of this summer.”

Let me be frank for a moment, bullshit.

Now, let me count the many times it was said this movie would finally get into production:
  1. October 2017 it was said the movie would go into production in spring 2018. Wrong.
  2. February 2017 it was thought the movie might go into production in 2018. Wrong.
  3. July 2016 is was said how GAMBIT would begin filming in 2017. Wrong.
  4. March 2016 is was reported that GAMBIT would begin production at the end of 2016. Wrong.
  5. June 2015 is was thought the movie would begin filming in fall 2015. Wrong.
You get the point.

Take everything said about this movie with a grain of salt until we see an official announcement by Fox the movie is actually in production and filming has begun. Especially since it has lost several directors and is currently without one. So regardless of Kinberg's hopeful promise in his quote above, don't get excited.

Instead, go and see a movie Fox can get produced and filmed and released when DEADPOOL 2 releases this weekend. (Click here to read our spoiler-free review of DEADPOOL 2.)
