Billion Dollar Club: BLACK PANTHER Moves Past CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR in Worldwide Box Office Gross

Marvel's BLACK PANTHER has won its fifth straight weekend of release as the No. 1 film in the domestic box office. This is an achievement that has not been done since AVATAR did it eight years ago, in 2009. Plus, Marvel Studios' 18th film has also surpassed the worldwide total of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR making it the studios' fourth highest grossing film worldwide (so far).

In its fifth weekend of domestic release, BLACK PANTHER earned an estimated $27 million moving the film past $600 million in domestic box office gross. This makes BLACK PANTHER only the seventh film in history — with unadjusted grosses from inflation — to achieve this milestone.

Currently, BLACK PANTHER has taken in $605 million; only STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS ($936M), AVATAR ($760M), TITANIC ($659M), JURASSIC WORLD ($652M), THE AVENGERS ($623M), and STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI ($619M) sit above BLACK PANTHER.

By this time next week, BLACK PANTHER will have moved past THE AVENGERS in domestic gross to become Marvel Studios' highest domestic earner... of all-time. A tremendous accomplishment by a film who did not have any of the studios' other big name Avengers heroes making an appearance or cameo to help boost box office sales. So yeah... T'Challa is the new King of Wakanda and he is about to be the new domestic King of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, too.

Overseas, BLACK PANTHER took in $30 million to bring its International total to $577 million.

Worldwide, BLACK PANTHER is the 14th highest grossing film of all-time (unadjusted). It moved past the $1.15 billion CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR made globally and at $1.18 billion it sits right behind the $1.21 billion IRON MAN 3 made. BLACK PANTHER should easily pass the third Iron Man film by this time next week, however, it is still a bit away from the $1.4 billion AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON tallied.
