BLACK PANTHER Becomes Marvel Studios' 5th Movie to Achieve $1 Billion Worldwide

On Saturday, Marvel's BLACK PANTHER officially became Marvel Studios' fifth film to crossover into the $1 billion mark in global box office ticket sales. The film joins the ranks of THE AVENGERS ($1.5B), AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON ($1.4B), IRON MAN 3 ($1.2B), and CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR ($1.1B).

In its fourth weekend of release, BLACK PANTHER took in $41 million; retaining its hold on the box office in the No. 1 spot for the fourth consecutive week. It has amassed over $562 million during its domestic run which is still shy of Marvel Studios' No. 1 domestic film all-time, THE AVENGERS and its $623 million.

Yet, the $41 million the film took in in its fourth weekend was better than the $36 million THE AVENGERS took in during its fourth weekend of release, so there is a good chance BLACK PANTHER could surpass THE AVENGERS' $623 million total — even as the release of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR looms in just over a month from now. Only AVATAR ($50M) and STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS ($42M) have brought in more than BLACK PANTHER in the fourth weekend of release.

Overseas, BLACK PANTHER finally opened in China and it opened big with over $66 million in estimated ticket sales. Overall Internationally, the film has taken in over $516 million.

Worldwide, BLACK PANTHER is sitting with a grand total of $1.07 BILLION.

It cannot be stated enough at how amazing this box office run has been... we are talking about a film not many predicted would even have a chance at hitting $1 billion in the worldwide box office and here we are talking about the Marvel Studios' fifth $1 billion film.
