SUPERGIRL Season 2 Episode 6 Review: Changing

I feel SUPERGIRL Season 2 is definitely evolving into a better season than the first. We are only a few episodes in but it's giving us an interesting episode without the audience forgetting the bigger plot of the season. We begin this episode with two scientists in Norway discover a wolf that has been trapped in an ice for 5,000 years and is somehow easily thawed. As the guy tries to dissect the wolf, his hand gets sucked in.

Mon-El and Kara meanwhile meet up at the alien bar to discuss his next steps. Kara gets wasted on alien alcoholic drink. Drunk Kara is adorable. They get a S.O.S. message from the scientists in Norway. Given that Kara is too tipsy, Alex and Hank take the jet to investigate the attack and bring the main scientist, Dr. Jones, back to national city and a parasite along with him.

Kara starts training Mon-El, partly in revenge to her getting her drunk as well as getting him prepared to possibly being a superhero. He's not really looking forward to doing the whole saving people in tights thing.

Meanwhile, Winn finds video of what happened in Norway. Dr. Jones killed them after being infected from the parasite. Supergirl and Alex go after Dr. Jones to confront him at the university. He, of course, escapes as he absorbs the people’s energy that he attacks using the alien parasite.

James shows up demanding a suit from Winn after hearing Kara almost died. Winn refuses to adhere to his tantrum and withholds the suit until it's ready. After talking to Maggie, Alex decides to talk to Kara.

After a few minutes she feels uncomfortable and upset that she is going to alienate her sister. Later on, Kara allays her fears and assures her that she is okay and she is there for her sister like she has been for her since she was a kid.

Kara thinks that there is an alien attack and hurried to the scene as Supergirl. Instead she finds out that Mon-El is using his power to get a job as muscle. It's creative but pretty much the opposite of what Kara wants. They get into an argument again and go their separate ways. They sure do fight like cats and dogs.

They get another lead on Dr. Jones boss who has been trying to get rid of Dr. Jones. They take this chance to find Jones by Hank moonlighting as his boss. Before they can take him out, Jones absorbs the energy from both Hank and Kara, leaving them looking nearly like skeletons and mutating himself. Kara and Hank are out of commission as Kara gets healed and Alex finds Megan to get Hank a blood transfusion. Alex gets pissed after seeing Mon-El getting drunk when they could use his help. She is sure to make him know that even if she doesn't believe in him but that Kara does.

Mutated Dr. Jones confronts his boss but Mon-El grows a pair and along with James in his new Guardian suit (With Winn his ear)goes after him. They keep him at bay for a while. Luckily, Supergirl shows up and when he draws to drain her again, he takes the plutonium from her hands instead.

Alex celebrates with Maggie about coming out to her sister and finally kisses her. However, Maggie basically rejects a date with Alex because she doesn't think they'll work out. Alex gets embarrassed and tries to backpedal on her decisions to come out to Kara. Her sister knows better and comforts her.

Of course James is all mysterious and brooding about his alter ego and doesn't tell Kara that it's him. However, I doubt his secret will last very long, especially given that Winn is in on it. I do like the new partnership between him and Winn. They both are developing into more well rounded characters without simply being sidekicks.

I have a feeling the blood transfusion between Megan and Hank is going to come back to bite her in the butt. I'm sure there are some side effects since she is a white Martian.

Poor Mon-El gets snatched by Cadmus when he's trying to be a good person and help a homeless man (in reality a Cadmus agent). I like that Mon-El doesn't have heroism come to him as easy as Kara or James does. It makes it more realistic about how not every alien wants to be a superhero.

I still feel like there is more of a story to tell with Maggie. I'm not buying the good cop thing. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Cadmus and their operation in the next episode when they no double go to rescue Mon-El. Perhaps we’ll finally see if Lena Luthor is on her mother’s schemes.
