SUPERGIRL Season 2 Episode 5 Review: Crossfire

This week we finally get more scenes with James who has been cast to the sidelines this season. Hopefully this is the beginning of a more pivotal role for him. Mon-El and Kara have turned over a new leaf. Kara is fully into trying to get his human alias up and going, which he is more than happy and about. She even gets him an internship at Catco.

While out with Kara, James and her witness a robbery in progress. Supergirl immediately goes into action but gets her butt kicked by one of the guys who have a alien gun. James ends up no better and his dad’s camera ends up broken. Wow it's so on.

Cadmus releases another propaganda video about the alien gun getting into criminals hands. Like that so wasn't their intention. The robbers attack again, this time with a new and-gravity weapon that send a cop car flying into space. Kara saves the officer but they lose the criminals again. As expected, the robbers are working with Cadmus and receive a bigger, badder weapon to take on Supergirl.

Mon-El is having the time of his life. After getting James’ assistant to do his work, he gets himself invited with Kara to gala that Lena Luthor Is throwing and nearly hooks up with James’ assistant (much to Kara’s disgust).

James is having a hard time dealing with the attack. After losing his camera and getting the crap kicked out of him, he feels useless and decides to find the robbers himself. He ends up finding them trying to attack the Federal Reserve and ends up rescuing people from a building after the robbers used their gun to turn it to dust. Winn, of course, hacks a security camera and finds out that it was James. He refuses to help James thinking he is going to get himself killed.

Maggie and Alex have been spending increasingly more time together, especially that Maggie has broken up with her girlfriend. Alex tries to cheer her up, but it ends up in awkward conversations where she thinks Alex is gay, but Alex immediately rejects that idea. Me thinks the lady doth protests too much. Alex giving Kara a pep talk about giving Mon-El a break on trying to make him like her, also solves her problem about Maggie. Alex slowly starts to come with terms about her sexuality.

Lena gets Kara to set up a meeting with Supergirl as payment for help with the fight club incident. Lena asks Supergirl to come to the gala to make sure the robbers don't attack. She agrees but now has the trouble of trying to be two people at one time in the same place.

After making a few wardrobe changes (With Winn as a distraction), the robbers show up making Supergirl busy. Winn goes to hide and finds out this was trap set up by Lena to take out their guns using a Black Body Field Generator. As they try and get it working, James springs into action to help Supergirl. Luckily the generator works and the weapons are destroyed. Although the robbers are caught, the women from Cadmus ties up the loose ends and takes them out before they can ID her.

We finally find out who the evil Cadmus chick is. She's mommy Luthor. Fantastic. While Lena is (allegedly) trying to give the Luthor’s a better name, her mother is trying to destroy it. Not to mention, she didn't take out the robbers who she knew were going to attack her kid’s party. Someone loses mother of the year. I do think that Lena isn’t completely innocent though,

Winn changes his mind and agrees to help James get his vigilante identity together and get him a suit. Thank goodness for that because James needs to find himself a better costume than a hoodie and a hipster looking ski mask.

Mon-El seems to be going on a season long journey on his place on earth. It's nice to see him helping Kara grow as well as she deals with her own faults (trying to control him) in trying to mentor him. With James suiting up as a vigilante, it shouldn't be long until Mon-El gets his superhero on as well.
