SUPERGIRL Season 2 Episode 3 Review: Welcome to Earth

After the drama of Superman leaving, the next episode picks up right where it left off without a beat. It feels like the show does not skip a step with the famous Kryptonite leaving. The alien dude does not take kindly to waking up in a strange place. After rendering Supergirl unconscious, he escaped the DEO. This just became the top of their list since the President is arriving to announce the right of aliens being welcome to earth. It's the Civil Rights Act for aliens. Yay! But of course means there will be people against it. Supergirl arrives to meet Madam President (Lynda Carter aka the original Wonder Woman) on the tarmac, which is a good thing since she is attacked by some fireball throwing alien. Supergirl proves herself by saving her from becoming ash and getting her out.

After deducing it came from a similar heat vision like Kara’s, they immediately assume that the loose Kryptonian dude on the loose is responsible.

Madam President and Hank butt heads as he does not agree with the Amnesty Act. He knows what happened when his true identity was discovered and knows how unwilling people are to welcome someone different and feels this will only make things worst. After getting the President settled in (and pulling herself together from fangirling) , Kara goes to conduct her first interview with Lena Luthor regarding the Alien Amnesty Act. Just like a Luthor, Lena is trying to make money off the Alien Amnesty Act with a alien detection device she plans to sell to the public to anyone who wants to see who's an alien. What a step backwards.

On the first day on the job, Jimmy is not doing so well as he is railroaded over by Snapper, which knows his confidence down. Kara is also not doing well as her pro-alien opinionated piece is slashed by Snapper and requested to be more objective. Alex is also having difficulty with a National City cop, Maggie Sawyer who tries to go head to head with her over finding the alien who targeted the President. After meeting several times with less than happy results, Maggie decides to be nice and share. Maggie takes her Alex to a dive bar that turns out to be have almost exclusive alien patronage as well as revealing her info on aliens coming from also dating them. This meet up makes Alex see aliens in a new way.

Poor little lost alien seems to want to go home and even kidnaps a observatory employee to send a message home, except he isn't contacting Krypton, but a planet called Daxam. Which is apparently the planet nemesis of Krypton. They find him and bring him back, but Kara doesn't hide her disdain for the Daxamite as she interrogates him. Come on, we are working on ending prejudice, you’re not helping the cause.

As expected, there is another attack on the president during the signing of the Alkem Amnesty Act. It's revealed the the attacker is another alien, one seen in the bar. She escapes without her target, but takes Maggie as a hostage. Kara and Alex find Maggie and the pyromaniac alien and the girls successfully take her in. This is what happens when you assume, Kara. Humans get kidnapped.

Hank, after some advice from the president, goes to see the alien dive bar to try and be among other aliens. He’s in for a big shock. He runs right into another Martian Manhunter (well Womanhunter), allegedly the last daughter of mars. That's what happens when you go out and meet people, Hank. You find out there are other Martians.

Madam President was very interesting. It was nice to see Superhero royalty, Lynda Carter, appear in another female driving superhero show. However, the president herself was more conniving. She seemed to be so super pro-alien, but in the end is revealed to be the woman behind Cadmus. It figures. There’s no way that she could be that cool with trying to be fried every time she goes out in public. It'll be interesting to see the truth regarding the woman. Is she an alien, using alien tech to change herself? So much to learn.

Kara swallows her pride and apologizes to the Daxamite, named Mon-El. She accepts that she jumped to conclusion based on his race and reveals the destruction of his planet. It was finally nice to see some of Kara’s flaws as a Danvers and as Supergirl. She can be a good person who wants to help, but she can also let her biased prejudice of being either pro-alien (regarding her interview) or anti-Daxam (regarding the DEO) get in the way of her job. It seems like after overcoming her prejudice she was be essential in helping Mon-El find his place on earth or perhaps another planet.
