SUPERGIRL Season 2 Episode 4 Review: Survivors

SUPERGIRL has definitely been gaining its momentum this season. Each episode has a good plot that wraps itself around the season’s main theme. In saying that, we kick off this episode with a look into our Daxamite.

We flashback to Mon-El who was a palace guard for the royal family of Daxam. Specifically the prince, who makes him leave instead of trying to save him. Instead of trying to play on their sympathies, Mon-El plays nice and tries to find his place in the DEO.

Maggie and Alex seem to be getting tight. They meet up at a crime scene where a seemingly peaceful known alien murdered by another alien. Hmm. They get a lead on a guy who might be involved, but he is kidnapped by a group of creepy guys in black. Spooky.

Maggie shows Alex a place that she found on a top. Suspicious but back to that later. We find out it is an alien fight club led by a woman called Roulette. It turns out one of the competitors is...Megan. Yep the last Martian chick. Luckily, Alex called Kara prematurely and they break up the fight club. For now.

Hank reveals to Kara and Alex that he found another Martian, Megan. They then reveal that she is part of the fight club. Hank is more than a little upset with her, but Megan isn't having any of it. She wants to forget, when he wants to remember. Aww poor Megan. All the Martians have a sad story.

Kara confronts the Roulette woman, but their conversation leads to her having doubts about whether people like her are aliens best options.

Winn and Mon-El are bonding by testing Mon-El's abilities. He preys on Winn's excitement of making him a superhero and they go out of the DEO. However, crap hits the fan when Mon-El inadvertently gets into a bar fight. Kara gets sent in to talk to him and apologize about how standoffish she's been and they bond over their family.

Hank takes a cue from Kara and goes to apologize for jumping on Megan and instead is capture by Roulette. She forces them to fight to the death.

To find out where the next site of the fight club is being held, Kara goes to one of the only upper crust people she knows, Lena Luthor. Lena gives her the location with an ominous comment about her being there for when she needs it. Basically a foreshadowing that this is going to come back and bite her in the butt.

Hank gets through to Megan and they stop fighting, but they bring out the big guns. An alien named, Dragga (who is about as pretty as his name) to take them both out. Luckily, Supergirl arrives and takes him down (Thanks to a tip from Mon-El). Initially, the aliens are about to turn on the DEO agents to get Roulette when Kara encourages them that she isn't their only option. They deserve better. However, Roulette gets out of custody in the end. Apparently she has friends in high places. I have a feeling she's linked to Cadmus and I'm now impatiently waiting her demise.

Kara gets them to release Mon-El into her custody. Mon-El seems to be sincerely trying to make his life on earth work. He even takes responsibility for taking Winn out. He’ll still have to tackle learning how to be human. They're going to be an interesting team up as superheroes as well as civilians and it's her responsibility that he doesn't turn out to be a bad alien.

Kara takes the lead on the story about the alien fight club at Catco, but is pushed by Snapper to get more information before running with the story. Snapper is a bit biting (yes, I did it) but he obviously thinks Kara can do it and pushes her to polish her story.

I don't trust Maggie. She gets leads and tips on aliens too well, even for someone who hangs out alien dive bars. It seems as though they are pushing towards a Alex and Maggie Romaric relationship, which would be interesting and bring a new layer to Alex’s character. Either way, Alex Danvers needs some more friends. That aren't aliens or criminals.

Another Martian shocker; Hank finds out there is even more to Megan than he thought. Curiouser and curiouser. Was her sob story somewhat fact or is she making it up to take Hank out? Poor Hank. He just can't catch a break.
