WONDER WOMAN Profile: Get to Know Steve Trevor

Steve Trevor first appeared in All-Star Comics No. 8 in December 1941 and was created by William Moulton Marston. Wanting to follow in his mother’s footsteps, Steve set out to become a pilot. Steve was an intelligence officer in the United States Army Air Corps during World War ll and during a mission gone wrong he crashed and became stranded on Wonder Woman’s homeland and home of the Amazons, Themyscira. Due to no men living on Themyscira, Steve became the first man Wonder Woman had ever encountered. From there Steve developed a close relationship with her and was an occasional a romantic interest for the Amazon princess.

After healing Steve on Themyscira, the Amazon Queen Hippolyta held a contest to decide who would bring the strange man back to the U.S. Wonder Woman disobeyed her mother and secretly entered the contest only to win and escort Steve back to the outside world. Wonder Woman, then, took on a secret identity and she became known as Diana Prince; a nurse in the military and secretary to General Darnell. Even though Steve was in love with Wonder Woman, he was unable to put together that Diana Prince and Wonder Woman were the same person. Steve and Wonder Woman often fell into storylines that involved different “damsel in distress” kidnapping situations. However, what was unique about their relationship was that it typical Wonder Woman who needed to come to rescue Steve.

In a more recent incarnation of Steve Trevor, he is an A.R.G.U.S. agent who was assigned to watch over Diana while she stayed in Washington D.C. He was assigned to this after he argued with Amanda Waller that the Amazons were not a threat to global security. Steve also served as the link between meta-humans and the government as well as a link between the Justice League and A.R.G.U.S. In recent reimagining’s of Steve, he is no longer constantly being rescued by Wonder Woman and he is now a highly skilled government agent who is more than capable of holding his own in a fight.

Actor Chris Pine will be playing Steve Trevor in WONDER WOMAN, the fourth film in the DC Extended Universe. The film will take place during World War I and judging on the trailers, it looks like we will get a great mix between the different versions of Steve Trevor. One noticeable change is that Steve will be a pilot in WWI instead of WWII. Although this may change the characters history a bit, it is not a huge change. Another interesting observation about Steve in the upcoming film is that it looks like he can fight. This is a great change to the original version and I think the movie will benefit from Wonder Woman and Steve working together rather than he needing to be saved constantly.

During the course of DC comic’s history, Steve and Wonder Woman have been known to be lovers, husband and wife, and strictly as friends. Although it is not certain whether or not the two characters will fall in love in the upcoming movie, it looks as though it could go either way. Unfortunately, due to Wonder Woman’s powers, Diana will outlive Steve. It will be interesting to see how their relationship plays out, especially considering Wonder Woman is beginning to realize her powers. It could be that she doesn’t know that she lives longer than normal humans and will have to watch Steve grow older and older.

Regardless on how the relationship between Steve and Diana will play out, fans can’t wait to watch director Patty Jenkins retell the classic story of WONDER WOMAN on June 2, 2017.
