ROGUE ONE is Before A NEW HOPE: A Star Wars Canon Timeline Refresher For Those Who Need it

***This is a post for anyone who is confused after seeing the trailer for ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY and is not sure as to where it fits into the current Star Wars timeline.***

Star Wars has been a piece of pop culture since 1977 and for how big the fan base is there are many who are either not familiar with its current post-Disney buyout amended timeline or who are too young to understand that STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS and ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY are at different points in its timeline.

So here's a quick post to get those who may be confused after seeing today's new ROGUE ONE trailer up-to-speed.

The most basic Star Wars timeline, as it is known right now for movies and TV, is as follows:

THE PHANTOM MENACE
ATTACK OF THE CLONES
STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS (animated series)
REVENGE OF THE SITH
STAR WARS: REBELS (current animated series on Disney XD)
ROGUE ONE
A NEW HOPE
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
RETURN OF THE JEDI
THE FORCE AWAKENS
EPISODE VIII (12/15/17)
EPISODE IX (2019)

It is still unknown exactly where HAN SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY (due in 2018) will fall into this timeline, but it's somewhere between REVENGE OF THE SITH and A NEW HOPE.

With all this being laid out, hopefully it gives a greater understanding of the current Disney canon timeline. All formerly known Expanded Universe (EU) canon is now called Star Wars Legends and is not official canon since the buyout.

ROGUE ONE releases on December 16.
