VENOM: Alex Kurtzman Says the Movie's Story is Starting to Take Shape

Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man franchise spin-off movie Venom — which is rumored to have a working title of Venom: Carnage — is starting to take shape. At least that's what producer/director Alex Kurtzman has said to ComicBookResources.com.

"[W]e started kind of roughing out a story. Ed Solomon’s going to be writing it very soon. I can’t tell you too much, but I’m really excited about it."

In case you don't know, Ed Solomon is the man who wrote the screenplay for Men in Black and the Bill & Ted movies. But the biggest question surrounding Venom looms and that is: Who will be wearing the symbiote suit?

"I would not say it’s an easy choice," Kurtzman continued via CBR. "I would say that there are quite a few things about Venom that are interesting. Venom had several different iterations, and there are several things that are very unique, interesting and specific. And so I think we all want to make sure that we’re making the right choices for a character that’s so beloved."

In the comics, Eddie Brock and Flash Thompson are the two popular choices to star in a Venom movie although it remains to be seen if Spider-Man will initially wear the symbiote, just like in the original comics introduction of Venom. Of course there's the chance Sony and Kurtzman will follow and adapt from the Ultimate Spider-Man story line for Venom, where it's a medical suit created by Richard Parker and Brock to try and cure cancer. Seems like the latter is most plausible since OsCorp is the origin for all of Spider-Man's movie villains in the current The Amazing Spider-Man franchise movie-universe.

Venom (or the rumored Venom: Carnage) will reportedly release sometime in 2017 but Sony has not confirmed an exact release date, as of the publishing of this post.
