Writer & Director Alex Kurtzman Says Obvious Things About His "Darker" VENOM Movie, But An Update is An Update

After The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underwhelmed in the box office this past summer, per Spider-Man standards, Sony wasn't blown away by its performance and below-average reviews. So the studio pushed The Amazing Spider-Man 3 back to 2018 while announcing Sinister Six is coming in 2016 and a Venom movie is being developed by writer and director Alex Kurtzman. Some say Spider-Man fatigue has taken effect while it's actually obvious Sony needs to expand their Spider-Man movie universe in order to keep any pace with Marvel Studios (Marvel Cinematic Universe), 20th Century Fox (X-Men, Fantastic Four) and Warner Bros. (DC Cinematic Universe).

Kurtzman is new to the director seat but has been a producer and writer for years with multiple franchises and television series. Venom marks one of his first writer/director projects. Nothing official has really been said about Venom outside of it being in development, rumored to be out sometime in 2017 and possibly having the title of 'Venom: Carnage.'

The evil opposite of Spider-Man, Venom is way more darker than Spidey and Kurtzman may tap into this.

“The idea,” says Kurtzman to MTV, “is that you can do things with Venom that you can’t do with Spider-Man… Venom is the representation of every line that will get crossed. He’s a much darker character.”

None of that is really Earth-shattering information and does not clue fans in to if Kurtzman will go take the Venom monster path or the anti-hero Agent Venom route. If the movie does indeed carry the rumored Venom: Carnage title then there's a chance Venom could be adapted into a bit of both.
