Skyfall explodes to biggest opening in franchise history, more James Bond movies expected to hit theaters faster now

Sony / MGM

Get ready for more James Bond because England's popular super spy just gave Sony a perfectly timed profit boost during a tough financial period for the company. Which means, Bond is about to get commercially exploited by Sony, who even gave clues of this happening prior to the film's release.

First, let's talk numbers. Bond has opened to a domestic box office total of $88 million in it's first weekend. That is simply huge when you take in consideration that Daniel Craig's last appearance as Bond (in Quantum Solace) only opened to $67 million, in 2008.

Internationally, Bond has been dominating as well. Worldwide totals are not available, at the time this post was published, but you can bet Skyfall is already closing in on the $500 million mark. Going into Bond's U.S. opening, the movie nearly made $350 million worldwide, so a half billion is not that far off.

The real story here is that fact Sony will be pimping out Bond. Sony is known for fast-tracking its popular movie franchises into making sequels as quickly as they can (just like with Spider-Man) and you can bet the next Bond will be in theaters in two years.

Bond is about to be churned out quickly and over the past two months two telling signs of a fast-track have been announced. One was that Craig signed on for two more movies after Skyfall and the other being that the Skyfall writer has already begun writing the next Bond movie.

This is not a bad thing at all, especially if you're a Bond fan and have wanted more movies in less amount of time between each release. It's about to happen now that Skyfall is a huge financial success!
