Star Wars Episode VII: Disney will not look to any books for content and to consider solo movies as well

Disney

Now that a day has passed since the shocking announcement of Disney stealing buying out Lucasfilm and Star Wars and then announcing that Episode VII is coming in 2015, it is time to consider what the next trilogy will be about.

There is a tremendous amount of content to pull from with novels and comics but Disney is going to go back to "the creator" and, according one of EOnline's sources, will look at the next trilogy as being completely original.

"So is that the basis for Episode 7 or not? I've heard directly from LucasFilm and other sources close to the picture, and they say: Definitely not.

'It's an original story,' a LucasFilm source [told EOnline].

In other words, forget the Star Wars novels. Forget the graphic novels. Forget everything you think you know about what happens to Luke Skywalker. According to my sources, Episode 7 will literally be nothing you've ever seen or read before from the Star Wars universe.

I also hear from several sources that, no matter what you may hear to the contrary, no director has been officially attached to the project."

George Lucas also commented that he has given his notes and treatments for his original vision of the next trilogy, that he wrote decades ago.

Also, another source has confirmed (to The Hollywood Reporter) that Disney is considering solo character movies as well.

“Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that one possibility being considered is an Avengers-style movie universe with not only Lucas’ planned final trio of films but offshoot movies focusing on individual characters.”

Solo movies sound interesting as long as the right character is chosen. Maybe a Boba Fett movie will actually happen after it was rumored to be in development last year. That would be cool for sure! Or how about a solo Darth Vader movie which takes place after Episode III and has him cleaning house of all the remaining Jedi across the galaxy? (That might be a bit too dark but what fan doesn't want to see this?!)
