This fall marks season eight of the television show How I Met Your Mother starring The Avengers' Cobie Smulders, who played Nick Fury's right-hand man ... er ... woman, Maria Hill.

Ever since news broke that Marvel would be making a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, written by the Whedon's, speculation has been fierce regarding who could star in the new series.

Some theories said it would be a new cast of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents while others say Smulders could assume the leading role. Also, to kind of corroborate that last rumor, per the Twitter account of Roger Wardell, it seems like Smulders could be up for the leading role in S.H.I.E.L.D.

Smulder's Marvel character, Hill, is not a larger part of the comic book universe though she does have her moments when there is more focus on her. This makes her the perfect candidate for the television series, seeing as how it will most likely focus on lesser known characters from the comics and who are in S.H.I.E.L.D.

Until Marvel announces more information regarding this rumor of Smulders to possibly star in the TV show, we have to take is as it is as a rumor—but a pretty solid one for sure.
