Hot off the press! Marvel and ABC (both Disney owned properties) will be teaming up for the newly announced television show simply titled, S.H.I.E.L.D.

The new TV show will be overseen by The Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon, per Deadline. He will also co-write the pilot and possibly direct it, if his schedule allows it. Brother Jed Whedon and his wife Maurissa Tancharoen will also co-write the pilot and, per a tweet from Variety writer Cynthia Littleton, Jed and Tancharoen will be the "showrunners" while Joss will "show up every now and then 'and take credit for everything.'"

Littleton also reported:

"Joss Whedon, who appeared Tuesday night at the Writers Guild Theater as moderator of a Q and A with 'Sleepwalk with Me' filmmakers Mike Birbiglia and Ira Glass, said the storyline for the proposed series will be largely 'autonomous' from the 'Avengers' sequel feature that is also in the works. The series will revolve around the activities of the top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D espionage org featured in 'Avengers.'"

No word on whether or not Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) or Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) will make any appearances in the new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show but you can bet the Whedons and Tancharoen will introduce a new team of agents to be featured each week.

Details have not been released of when the new show will air but you'd have to figure nothing will be hitting your living room until 2014, at the earliest. Just speculation by us here at The Daily SuperHero though.
