What was once an assumption is now official. Disney and Marvel Studios have announced the sequel to this summer's Avengers movie will release on May 1, 2015.

Per Disney's press release:

“The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the biggest superhero blockbuster and third highest-grossing film of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers,” said a statement from Disney. ”Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the untitled Marvel’s Avengers sequel, set for release [on] May 1, 2015.”

What is interesting about Disney's announcement is the fact they refer to the sequel as "the untitled Marvel's Avengers sequel" which means the movie will most likely get a subtitle like how Thor 2 became Thor: The Dark World.

Maybe it'll be Avengers: The Infinity Gauntlet or perhaps Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Just a guess though.
