Now that it's officially and Marvel Studios has Joss Whedon exclusively signed on for The Avengers 2, and to help with creative development of Phase 2, it seems quite obvious the sequel to this summer's ensemble movie is destined to release on May 1, 2015.

The reason we here at The Daily SuperHero assume this is mainly because Whedon is only signed on with Marvel through June 2015. Logically speaking, The Avengers 2 would have to come out before Whedon's exclusive contract runs out but this also means Phase 2 would have to be completed before the deal ends too.

In other words, expect to see Ant-Man's release to be pushed ahead to sometime in 2014—and the rumor mill has already been saying Ant-Man will release in 2014 anyway—and it will be Marvel's third release of that calendar year with Captain America: The Winter Solider and Guardians of the Galaxy.

During the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con in July, and after Marvel announced their lineup for Phase 2, many thought Ant-Man would be released sometime in 2015. But there is no way Marvel would let The Avengers 2 open up later in the summer movie season based on the success of The Avengers, which led off this year's summer movie season.

To recap, you will see Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World next year in theaters. Followed by Cap 2, Guardians and Ant-Man in 2014 and The Avengers 2 in May of 2015. Just our guess but the puzzle pieces seem to fit together perfectly now that Whedon is back and the end of his new contract has been detailed.
