BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Teases Jekyll and Hyde Influence

Writer and director Matt Reeves has handed in his script draft for his upcoming BATMAN movie and it sounds like Warner Bros. loves it too as filming is rumored to begin as soon as early 2019. Reeves did take a moment to tease his script to IndieWire and how there is some Jekyll and Hyde influence in his story of Bruce Wayne and Batman.

“... one of the things that I’ve found interesting, just as we’re working on the story, is looking back at Jekyll and Hyde, and the idea of your shadow-self, and the idea of, we are all multiple things. It’s different aspects of who we are, and I think there are times when maybe the surface of Bruce is not really who he is, but that’s his disguise. There are times when Batman’s the disguise, but there are times when his true essence comes out, because by being veiled, a kind of instinctual side comes out that’s very pure.
"... I think that we are all made up of so many different aspects of ourselves that make the whole. I don’t know if you could ever reduce anyone to one part of what they express. That’s what’s fun about his character, is that there’s a very bright light that shines on his shadow side. The idea of all of that is incredibly exciting. It’s part of what makes it fun for me to work on.”

Reeves' BATMAN movie is reportedly a standalone — and it could be a Trilogy of films — set outside the already established DC Extended Universe. Actor Ben Affleck is also said to not be reprising his role for this version of Batman as Reeves is looking to cast a younger actor in the role. The most recent casting rumor states Reeves considering GAME OF THRONES actor Kit Harrington as his Bruce Wayne/Batman, however, this has yet to be confirmed by the studio or anyone else close to the project.

Reeves' BATMAN movie does not have a release date, as of the publishing of this post, but if it is to begin filming in early 2019 then fans could expect its arrival as soon as 2020.
