Batman No More? A New Report Claims Ben Affleck's Days as the Caped Crusader May be Over

On August 22, 2013 actor Ben Affleck was cast as Batman by director Zack Snyder and on that day the Internet lost its collective mind while shortly after the "Batfleck" name was also created.

Since being cast in the role, Affleck has appeared in following DC Extended Universe films: BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, JUSTICE LEAGUE, and an uncredited cameo in SUICIDE SQUAD.

Sadly, Affleck has relapsed into his old drinking ways and for the second time in just over a year he has submitted himself to rehab. An unfortunate event for any human and fans everywhere should hope for a quick recovery. However, his most recent and sudden relapse back to rehab may cost him the role of Bruce Wayne / Batman in the DCEU.

According to TheWrap, the insurance premium Warner Bros. would have to put on Affleck to continue the role of Batman in another film may be too high, due to the comeback of his alcoholism. Again, a very sad situation for him or anyone.

TheWrap reports:

“More than likely the studio will replace him because the insurance costs are going to go through the roof,” a representative for a completion bond company told TheWrap.

“He would be bondable, but the deductible would be really high, probably the budget of the film,” an attorney who specializes in insurance and bond products added.

If this is indeed the end of Affleck's time wearing the cape and cowl, it will be interesting to see how the studio will deal with recasting the role. Will it be recast through a FLASH movie via the use of time travel a la an adaptation of the 'Flashpoint' comic book story arc? Or will it just be a straight recasting with an actor who is of similar stature and age? It will be fascinating to see how this plays out for the future of Batman on the big screen.

Lots of thoughts and prayers are with Affleck to get all the help he needs.
