GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Production Officially Delayed

This was seemingly inevitable since the firing of writer and director James Gunn last month. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting how the production schedule for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 is officially been put on hold by Marvel Studios as they search for a new director for the threequel. THR writes:

"The production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is being put on hold for the time being as Marvel and Disney regroup on the project, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

"Sources say that crew members, which is, at this stage, a small group that was prepping for preproduction, are being dismissed and are free to look for new work.

"The Marvel project was originally to have been directed by James Gunn and was to have begun principal photography in the winter, either in January or February. The project was crewing up and was to have gone into full preproduction mode in the fall."

Also noted in this report is how Volume 3 being on a delay is not permanent as this is more of a "regrouping" period for the studio since the firing. Disney and Marvel Studios never placed a firm release date for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, although is was heavily believed to be released in May 2020, but that does not seem likely in lieu of this news of this production delay.

Marvel Studios will be using the script written by Gunn, however, once a new director is hired it is unknown if the new director will tinker with Gunn's script in order to make it his or her own prior to production.
