Disney and James Gunn Negotiating Exit as Marvel Studios Wants His GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Script

The story of what happened to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY franchise writer and director James Gunn is one of getting a raw deal. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn is wanted by many in Hollywood right now. Studios are allegedly "dangling big film projects" to lure Gunn.

Right now, nobody can approach Gunn as he and Disney are still negotiating his exit from his contract to write and direct GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3. It sounds like a big exit negotiation point right now is how Disney and Marvel Studios want to use his Volume 3 script, which was finished and handed in ahead of his firing on July 20.

If his script is used, Marvel Studios would only have to find a director who can maintain Gunn's vision through his script and translate it to the big screen. Gunn's own conclusion to his planned 'Guardians Trilogy' can then be completed. But there is a costly catch to using his script... Disney may have to buyout Gunn from his GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 script at a price of $7 million - $10 million. So there is a large price for his firing.

The cast has backed Gunn and urged Disney to re-hire him back, however, Disney only seems interested in his script. THR did say negotiations are still fluid so anything is possible. Yet, this all prevents other studios from signing Gunn, but once he's officially out of his contract with Disney he will have his choice of whatever movie he wants to make next.
