Marvel Studios' BLACK WIDOW Movie Finds its Director

Even though Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce the movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the studio has landed its director for actress Scarlett Johansson's BLACK WIDOW solo movie.

According to the report, Cate Shortland will take the helm of the second female-led solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after next year's CAPTAIN MARVEL becomes its first. Of course ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is in theaters now and it will always be known at the studios' first co-headlining female movie.

There were reportedly over 70 female directors interviewed for this gig so the studio was very thorough in finding a director with the perfect vision for the movie. Not much else is known about this solo project and Marvel Studios does not have an official release date for it. Although this solo movie is rumored to take place before the events of THE AVENGERS.

Marvel Studios has three release dates per year set for untitled movies in 2020, 2021, and 2022 and BLACK WIDOW will most likely fall into one of these six release date slots.
