HARLEY QUINN Spin-Off Has Landed a Director and Should be in Production No Later Than Early 2019

Warner Bros. is moving full-steam ahead with a HARLEY QUINN spin-off movie starring actress Margot Robbie, reprising her role from SUICIDE SQUAD. According to Deadline, the HARLEY QUINN spin-off will be directed by Cathy Yan. The film is not officially titled and has previously been referred to as being called BIRDS OF PREY. This spin-off is written by Christina Hodson, who Warner Bros. just brought on to write the BATGIRL movie.

In the DC Comics universe Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Barbara Gordon (a.k.a. Bargirl, who may be first introduced in this film prior to having her own movie), and the Huntress made up the Bird of Prey team roster. It is unknown if this roster will carryover into this still-untitled live action movie.

Filming is slated to begin toward the end of 2018, or in early 2019, depending how Yan progresses with development of the film now that she is onboard.

There are other film projects currently in development where Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn — they are all further off and reportedly no where near as far along as this HARLEY QUINN spin-off is at right now — which include: SUICIDE SQUAD 2, HARLEY QUINN AND THE JOKER, and GOTHAM CITY SIRENS.

As of the publishing of this post, no official release date has been set for the untitled HARLEY QUINN spin-off.
