AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Tracking For Upwards of a $240 Million Domestic Opening Weekend

"Records are made to be broken."

Watch out STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS because AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is eyeing up many of your box office records. (Luckily, both studios are owned by Disney so this is just a win-win for Mickey Mouse.)

According to Pro.BoxOffice.com, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is tracking for a domestic opening weekend as high as $240 million. This would be Marvel Studios' biggest domestic opening ever — beating out their own current record holder THE AVENGERS with $207 million — and it would put it in contention to have a legit chance at beating the all-time record holder. STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS currently holds the record when it opened with $247 million, in December 2015.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR quickly became Fandango's all-time top selling superhero movie in ticket pre-sales needing only six hours to do it. Most of the Thursday April 26 evening screenings are getting close to a sell-out and Friday April 27 screenings are filling up quickly, too. (In other words, if you want to see this on opening weekend, you need to get your tickets now!)

The biggest thing that could prevent AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR from breaking the opening weekend record set by STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is the fact there might not be enough theater screens to show it on. However, do not be surprised if theaters open up more screen times as we get closer to the release of the film. Some theaters, like AMC, have already begun to do this since the weekend of April 27 is all about making as much box office cash as possible.
