Agent Phil Coulson and Past MCU Villains to Return in CAPTAIN MARVEL

The cast of CAPTAIN MARVEL just got mightier as Marvel Studios has officially released the main cast list for the origin film.

Set in the 1990s, CAPTAIN MARVEL already had Brie Larson in the title role as Carol Danvers, Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Ben Mendelsohn as a Skrull leader, and Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury. Now since the film is set in the 90s this means Fury will still have both of his eyes.

The film is said to be a loose adaptation of the comic book story arc 'The Kree - Skrull War' and due to its 90s timeline, several familiar faces will be returning to reprise their Marvel Cinematic Universe roles.

Actor Clark Gregg will return as Agent Phil Coulson (!!). Also, Lee Pace returns as well as Djimon Hounsou. The official press release does not say who they are playing, but it seems more than logical they will reprise their GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY roles as Ronan the Accuser and Korath, respectively.

The studio also released an official, albeit vague, synopsis for CAPTAIN MARVEL:

"Based on the Marvel comic character first appearing in 1968, the story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, 'Captain Marvel' is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

CAPTAIN MARVEL releases in the U.S. on March 8, 2019.
