ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Profile: The Ghost

Last summer, during San Diego Comic-Con 2017, it was revealed that the villain for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie ANT-MAN AND THE WASP would be Ghost. This will be the first time Ghost has been depicted in live action and actress Hannah John-Kamen will play the character.

Ghost was originally an Iron Man villain and he made his debut in IRON MAN No. 219, June 1987. David Michelinie and Bob Layton created the villain who eventually became an anti-hero and member of the reformed supervillain team, the THUNDERBOLTS.

Ghost’s real name is unknown, but he was a data engineer for a computer corporation. He also created GhostTech, which is a computer chip that becomes intangible before overheating and is capable or storing huge amounts of data without overheating. Unfortunately, the executives of the company Ghost worked at took advantage of the man’s genius for their personal gain. In order to keep Ghost happy and productive for them, they hired a woman to pretend to fall in love with him.

Ghost is extremely smart and skilled with computers. His fusion with GhostTech granted him an advanced technological suit that allows him to phase through objects, become invisible, and have superhuman abilities. His suit is armed with various weapons, lasers, explosives, and more. He is impossible to trace and an expert hacker.

When Ghost’s 'girlfriend' threatened to go public with the executive’s corruption and greed, the executives had her killed without Ghost’s knowledge. Stricken with grief, Ghost infused his body with his technology to so he could be more productive and efficient in his work. This caused a cyberpathic connection with Ghost and his technology. Ghost soon discovered the truth behind his lover and her death, so he killed off the executives one by one. He then erased all traces of whom he was and became devoted to taking down oppressive corporations.

Eventually, Ghost’s became part of the THUNDERBOLTS with a secret motive to bring down Norman Osborn from within his organization. Once Osborn was taken down, he joined Luke Cage’s new team of THUNDERBOLTS and began his path as an anti-hero.

Today, we got our first look at Ghost in ANT-MAN AND THE WASP (lead image). It was very brief, but she looks to be a menacing foe for Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne. Although we don’t get to see the character’s face, we know that the live-action version of the villain will be a female rather than a male. As to what changes that will bring to the villain, U.S. fans will have to wait until July 6, when ANT-MAN AND THE WASP hits theaters.
