SHAZAM! Director Touts How it Will be the Most Lighthearted DCEU Movie Yet

Warner Bros. must be telling all their production people to say how their movie projects will be lighthearted because it seems to be a common theme when it comes to teasing upcoming DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movies. Next up is SHAZAM! director David F. Sandberg, who told the Toronto Sun his movie will be the most lighthearted DCEU film yet.

“The big attraction for me with that character is the fact that every kid dreams of being Superman, right? I mean I certainly did, and [Billy Batson] is a kid that gets that chance. He gets to become the superhero. So it’ll be big with superpowers in a way. In terms of what people can expect, I think this will be one of the more fun or lighthearted movies so far in the DC universe. It certainly will be a departure.”

Maybe SHAZAM! is lighter on its tone, but Warner Bros. still has a long uphill battle against Zack Snyder's darker tones and heavier themes he created in MAN OF STEEL, BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and director David Ayer continued in SUICIDE SQUAD.

SHAZAM! is set to begin production in spring 2018 with a U.S. release date on April 5, 2019.
