Lord and Miller Exit HAN SOLO Standalone Star Wars Movie During Filming

Lucasfilm has confirmed directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have exited the standalone HAN SOLO Star Wars movie. Yes this is a shocking reveal, but what's more shocking is the fact the movie has been filming since January 30.

This is unprecedented for a film that is neck-deep into principle photography to lose its director(s) like this. Warner Bros. losing director Zack Snyder in post-production of JUSTICE LEAGUE due to family loss is one thing, but Lord and Miller leaving like this is highly unusual for a big budget movie. And of course it's being cited as the ever lame excuse of "creative differences" as the reason for the duo suddenly leaving.

"The untitled Han Solo film will move forward with a directorial change.
"'Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon,' said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.
“'Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew,' stated Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
"The untitled Han Solo film remains scheduled for a May 2018 release."

Even though Lucasfilm says the film will release on time, this unfortunate news makes it seem more inevitable than ever that the HAN SOLO movie may not make its May 2018 release date seeing as how the studio needs to find a new director, or directing duo, to take over production.

UPDATE: Variety is reporting that Lord and Miller were allegedly fired due to clashing with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, her team as well as co-writer and executive producer Lawrence Kasdan. Read more here.
