Stop Thinking Chris Evans is Quitting CAPTAIN AMERICA After His Contract is Up Because He's Not

Last week a story hit the web making it sound like actor Chris Evans would go the path of Hugh Jackman and retire from the role of Steve Rogers / Captain America since his contract with Marvel Studios would be complete after AVENGERS 4.

Well, he's not retiring from the role and he only said his contract is ending soon. Then someone, somewhere in the media decided to twist the facts into what is now known as "alternative facts" making a claim sounding like Evans was done forever after AVENGERS 4. This is the kind of crap that continues to hurt the world of journalism when someone twists information into something it's not.

Evans has commented on the topic of his contract being fulfilled to admits it is in fact coming to an end, but he is very open to signing a new contract to continue as Captain America. Robert Downey Jr. has done it already, and there's no reason to think Evans wouldn't do the same.

Here's what Evans has definitively said about his Marvel Studios contract expiring, via Collider:

“It’s really not up to me. My contract is up. I’m not going to sit here and say, 'No more.' I think Hugh Jackman has made 47 Wolverine movies, and they somehow keep getting better. It’s a character I love, and it’s a factory that really knows what they’re doing. The system is sound, over there. They make great movies. If they weren’t kicking out quality, I’d have a different opinion. But, everything Marvel does seems to be cinema gold. And like I said, I love the character. The only reason it would end is ‘cause my contract is up. After Avengers 4, my contract is done. Talk to Marvel. If we engage further, I’d be open to it. I love the character. It’s almost like high school. You certainly always look to senior year, and then, all of a sudden, senior year happens and you’re like, 'I don’t know if I’m ready to go.' It’s tough thinking about not playing the guy.”

So there you go. Stop twisting non-stories into something they're not.

And this isn't the first time it has happened. Back in September 2015 Evans had to address this same topic.

“Listen, if Marvel wants me they got me. I’ve never had such a relationship where you have such—I mean look at my resume, I’m used to being on set being like, ‘Ah is this movie gonna be terrible?’ Marvel just can’t stop making great movies, they do it in their sleep. It’s wonderful directors and producers and actors and scripts, and it’s like a playground as an actor.”

How many times does the guy have to address this?

We didn't cover this story at first because we knew Evans would probably comment on this topic again; and he did just that. Meanwhile, some reporters, writers and editors need to take a look in the damn mirror and ask themselves, "Am I really doing journalism the justice it deserves? Or am I just being a whore for web clicks?"
