LOGAN Moves Past X-MEN: APOCALYPSE in Worldwide Gross Meaning 2 of Fox's Top 3 Marvel Movies Are Rated R

Right about now, Fox should realize they are onto to something very cool with their recently released rated R Marvel movies.

After this weekend's box office estimates have come in, it is now official that LOGAN has moved past X-MEN: APOCALYPSE on the studios' worldwide box office gross chart with $565 million. LOGAN is planted firmly in third place on Fox's all-time Marvel movie box office gross list with X-MEN: DAY OF FUTURE PAST in second place and DEADPOOL on top.

Screencap from BoxOfficeMojo.

Fox most definitely has a good grip on rated R Marvel superhero movies right now and this is a great thing for both the fans and the genre. This also seems to be Fox's focus moving forward.

DEADPOOL 2 is in development to be rated R, DEADPOOL 3 will be just as mature and X-FORCE — which will feature both Deadpool and Cable — will be a Black Ops-type X-Men ensemble movie for mature audiences.

It is doubtful that future X-Men (proper) ensemble movies would ever be rated R, but Fox is putting out highly mature movies you would never see theatrical releases for from Disney-owned Marvel Studios. And while Marvel TV produces some edgy Netflix shows, they are not on the same rated R level as DEADPOOL and LOGAN are on.
