X-FORCE Movie is in the Pipeline and DEADPOOL 2 Will Likely Set it Up

Fox is pivoting its Marvel mutant movie universe. This had to happen when DEADPOOL became such a smash hit topping out as the studios' highest grossing Marvel mutant film. Nobody expected DEADPOOL to bring in nearly $800 million in the worldwide box office. Its profits were huge even with it being R-rated and banned in China — the world's second largest movie industry. A true film anomaly when it comes to worldwide box office performance.

Fox had to adjust to the massive hit — and because of the lackluster performance of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE — and it seems they are doing just that as their focus is moving toward a big tonal change in their mutant universe. LOGAN is coming on March 3 and it too will be R-rated. Then there's the almost officially green-lit NEW MUTANTS movie, which reportedly has more of a focus on a young adult audience. Then, DEADPOOL 2 will have more of the same R-rated action, comedy and raunch as seen in last year's DEADPOOL.

With DEADPOOL establishing the mature side of the mutant universe, DEADPOOL 2 is going to expand that by introducing mutants Cable and Domino. Fans have felt this could all lead to an X-FORCE team-up movie and, according to DEADPOOL franchise writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick via Collider, that's pretty much the plan.

"RHETT REESE: There is a responsibility we have to the X-Force universe, and I do think we will not disappoint the fans going into Deadpool 2 and then setting up X-Force and beyond.
"PAUL WERNICK: We never want to let the tail wag the dog. We want to tell the best Deadpool story we can. But I do think we have a responsibility to think about a larger universe in the way that Marvel does and start to put pieces in place. Some of these movies feel overstuffed and almost choking with the need to set up eighteen different things that pay off down the road, and we want to avoid that responsibility to the extent that it hurts us. We want to hint at things, we want to plan some characters, and we want to make some nods, but we’re very, very cognizant about making sure that Deadpool is above all a Deadpool movie.
"REESE: Its purpose is not to set up X-Force. It will likely set up X-Force, but the drive of the movie won’t be our eyes on Movie 3."

There you have it... X-FORCE is in the pipeline.
