HAN SOLO: Alden Ehrenreich Officially Revealed as the Young Smuggler and Filming Begins Early 2017

The still-untitled-but-tentatively-called HAN SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY was teased at Star Wars Celebration Europe this weekend. Written by Lawrence Kasdan (STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS) and directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (THE LEGO MOVIE), HAN SOLO has its release date set for May 25, 2018.

Lord and Miller took the stage, at Celebration, to officially reveal actor Alden Ehrenreich is in fact their young Han Solo. Ehrenreich, then, told the crowd how his audition process took about six month and he got to walk onto the Millennium Falcon set and audition for with a Chewbacca stand-in.

"The coolest part of that audition process was, I went on the Falcon," Ehrenreich said. "It’s pretty unbelievable. I’ve never screen tested with a Wookiee. It was amazing."

The directing duo also confirmed filming for HAN SOLO begins in early next year, in January or February 2017.
