DC Studios' CLAYFACE Movie Opens With $43 Million Worldwide

DC Studios' CLAYFACE movie opened that past weekend and ended up pulling in $43 million in the worldwide box office.

Now before you think that is a bust in regards to superhero movies numbers, you'd actually be wrong. And the reason is simple... CLAYFACE had a small production budget in the estimated range of $30M-$45M which is more on par with a horror film budget than a big superhero budget.

Deadline reports:

"Though the global opening here for Clayface is under the $45M hoped for, it’s still solid for the net $44M costing feature (before P&A), especially given its excellent audience exits. That A- is one of a few earned by horror titles, the others being Get Out, Weapons and Obsession. DC Bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran reportedly covered their faces after watching Clayface for the first time, literally scared by all the gross scenes. That’s what fanboys and moviegoers are responding to in the movie."

There is a good chance that this could jumpstart a new superhero genre trend of lower budget theatrical releases if CLAYFACE can continue to make box office ticket sales in the coming weeks.
