X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Breaks $500 Million With Nearly 72-Percent of that Coming From its International Box Office

It may not be doing as well as expected domestically, but Fox executives have to be happy that International box office ticket sales continue to drive the box office success of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

This weekend the film took in an estimated $5.2 million in sales bringing its domestic total to $146M.

Overseas, though, the movie is still doing much better than its performance stateside as it brought in an estimated $12.7M upping its International take to $364M.

Worldwide, the film has topped a half billion with a grand total of $510.1M.

This means that nearly 72-percent of its worldwide total has been a result of its strong International run. This is Fox's most lopsided total for any of their previous X-Men franchise movies. For comparison, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTUTE PAST had 68-percent of its total from overseas sales while only 53-percent provided the worldwide total for DEADPOOL. (However, DEADPOOL was banned in China so that total needs an asterisk, too.)

The critics were not fans of the film as evidenced by the film's 48-percent score on RottenTomatoes. And the fans weren't that thrilled either as it only netted a 73-percent fan score on the movie website, which is only ahead of the fans scores for of X-Men franchise films: THE WOLVERINE (69), X-MEN: THE LAST STAND (62) and X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE (59).

In the end, the biggest box office numbers for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE are now behind it as Fox needs to assess if they need to make any changes to its X-Men formula moving forward. Whether that's bringing in new writers, producers or directors for the next ensemble movie, so it can gain some box office traction in North America, remains to be seen.
