Bryan Singer Would Like a Solo MYSTIQUE Movie But it's Also Time to Recast the Role



Jennifer Lawrence is a big name in Hollywood, no doubt. One of her first breakout roles came from her first (of three) X-Men movies as Mystique, in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. Lawrence's performances in First Class and its follow-up X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST were solid. But then X-MEN: APOCALYPSE released and Lawrence's performance as Mystique fell off and many fans and critics agree this turn as the blue skinned mutant was flat and the weakest of her three films.

What's unknown is if it was due to producer Simon Kinberg's co-written script, Bryan Singer's direction or just because Lawrence is mentally done with the role and she was just going through the paces to fulfill her 3-movie X-Men contract with Fox. The latter seems the most likely as she's gone from not wanting to return, to wanting to return to maybe not returning within the past year when talking to various media outlets. Her indecisiveness alone is a sign that it's just time for her to move on.

It's seems obvious Lawrence just doesn't want to continue on as Mystique and the fact it was recently revealed how Hugh Jackman's Wolverine role was cut short to give Mystique a larger role makes matters worse. Maybe if Lawrence put forward a better performance, then less Wolverine in the movie wouldn't sting as much since his appearance was one of the best moments of the movie — regardless of any claims that his Weapon X sequence felt shoehorned it.

Which brings us to Singer and his recent comment on Empire's podcast, via VanityFair, stating that he's have interest in a solo MYSTIQUE movie.

Singer may have an interest in her solo movie, but if this were to move forward there's also a need to recast the role. Lawrence has stated many times that she hates the blue body paint and this is a big part of the role. You can't have someone who dislikes required body paint for a role. Sorry to the Lawrence fans out there but it's best to move on to another female actor who is more than willing to don the body paint.
