WOLVERINE 3 Confirmed to be Targeting R-Rating and Will Have a Western Tone

Before you jump up and start shouting that WOLVERINE 3* being rated-R is a result of the success of DEADPOOL need to remember that THE WOLVERINE could have been rated-R too. There was an unrated 'Unleashed Extended' cut of THE WOLVERINE released on Blu Ray with bloody scenes that were cut out in order to maintain its PG-13 rating. However, the success of DEADPOOL most likely helped to improve Fox's confidence in allowing WOLVERINE 3 to be made as an R-rated movie.

And WOLVERINE 3 will indeed be going for an R-rating according to producer Simon Kinberg, via Collider.

“I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that. I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”

Kinberg not confirming the whole Sir Patrick Stewart casting part is weird seeing as how the actor said he will be in the movie in August 2015. Although the script and casting needs for WOLVERINE 3 may have changed since last summer. What does sound cool is that WOLVERINE 3 will have a Western tone to it. This immediately fuels the assumption that it'll take cues from the comic book story arc 'Old Man Logan.'

With WOLVERINE 3 officially beginning to film in New Orleans last week, it's only a matter of time until Fox announces the main cast as well as its title. The movie is set to release on March 3, 2017.

* - Just call it 'WOLVERINE: OLD MAN LOGAN' already.
