Laura Kinney, aka X-23, Rumored For WOLVERINE 3 is a Logical Addition With Hugh Jackman Leaving the Role
The still-untitled third Wolverine movie is starting its casting process as WOLVERINE 3 will reportedly begin filming in New Orleans in the coming weeks. Not much is known about this film except that it will be actor Hugh Jackman's final turn as Logan, actor Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as the future timeline Charles Xavier, the movie will take place in Fox's future X-Men timeline and the movie allegeldy will take some basis from the 'Old Man Logan' comic book story arc.
A new rumor has just hit the web, via SuperHeroHype, claiming Laura Kinney, who is also known as X-23 in the comics, might be making her big screen debut in WOLVERINE 3.
This rumor is interesting on several levels because it's going to be very hard for Fox to recast an actor to replace Jackman and the studio should probably wait a little bit and not recast Wolverine too soon. Thusly, it makes sense if they're bringing Kinney into the mix. This brings X-23 into the spotlight as somewhat of a "Wolverine replacement" in the X-Men movie universe for a few years before eventually recasting the role of Logan.
If you're not familiar with Kinney her X-23 name origins comes from the same Weapon X program who created Wolverine. Kinney was the 23rd attempt at cloning Wolverine after the first 22 attempts failed. She has the same mutant healing factor as Wolverine as well as super-strength and heightened agility and reflexes. However, she only has two adamantium claws on each hand.
While this remains a rumor for right now, it makes sense to go the "female Wolverine" route for a little bit to not only add another female leading role into Fox's growing mutant universe but to also so the studio can take their time finding the perfect young actor to eventually don the adamantium claws after Jackman.
