"We all know the end is coming."
The Season 1 finale of LEGENDS OF TOMORROW is nearly upon us. With that being said, we need things to come full circle. We need loose ends to come together so we’ll be fulfilled and entertained come the end of Season 1. Although it wasn’t perfect, including a line of dialogue that was an eerily similar elephant in the room found in a rival comic book adaption, this episode predominantly did that that job and tied things together.
Right at the beginning, which was a much needed recap, I liked that we were delivered the small twist of Jax coming back and reuniting with the present day Dr. Stein. It not only let us know to stay on our toes for the upcoming story but it also internally revealed to us why Stein acted the way he has towards Jax. It ultimately gave us a reason for why Stein has been so heroic all season long as well.
I think it was necessary that much of the main plot of this episode revolved around the Time Masters. Although it was very Rip heavy, a big event like destroying the Oculus makes me personally think Season 2 will shut the book on the Time Masters and be the start of something new. I thought the fact that the Time Masters were behind the killing of Rip’s family was also really good for the story. It gives us a different character that now has no good ties to the Time Masters. It not only affects him but the rest of the team as well. They now have a captain and pretty much a brand new character, thinking on a completely different mindset.
Although I’ve made it pretty clear that I just don’t think much of the Hawkman and Hawkgirl storytelling has been very good, due to the co- dependence on the narrative of Vandal Savage, introducing the concept of the Thanagarians could be interesting. It could very well enrich the characters of Kendra and Carter, who I believe have been very dull so far.
From a jealous standpoint, I really hate that Snart is gone. Although I don’t know if he’s gone forever, you know one member of the team wasn’t going to survive. It wouldn’t make it a good adventure if someone didn’t make it out alive. But I really wish it would have been someone other than Snart. He’s been one of the real bright spots of the DC TV world. I still think much of the action with Mick/Chronos was pretty confusing. But I’ll take it if it means Rory stays on this show.
Freestyle thoughts from this episode:
- Snart making a pass at Sara kind of came out of nowhere.
- “The difference between murder and execution is only a matter of authority.”....woah
- Think back to that line I mentioned about the elephant in the room...it was said by Snart... “There are no strings on me.” ...remind you of a certain comic book film?
- Was there a real point behind killing Snart?
- I really hope the Thanagarian cannon can help me enjoy Kendra and Carter.
- The destruction of the oculus really made it seem like the Time Master chapter of this story is over...thus leading to a (hopefully) very Vandal Savage heavy season finale.
