BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is a direct sequel to MAN OF STEEL as its prologue shows the effects from the battle of Superman and General Zod. But there's still no plans for a solo SUPERMAN movie in Warner Bros. and DC Films' current slate of DC Extended Universe movies. Same with a solo BATMAN movie, although actor Ben Affleck has written a script for it and the buzz surrounding it has increased since Affleck's performance has been applauded.
JUSTICE LEAGUE director Zack Snyder spoke with IGN about the possibility of an eventual SUPERMAN standalone movie.
"Part of the reason we haven't announced the stand alone Superman movie at this time was to support some of the events of this film.
"I think if we could get a good script it'd be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do.
Actor Henry Cavill added.
"I do believe it depends upon the success of this movie. If this goes well, then we can start negotiating with Warner Bros. to develop a standalone Superman, but they've got their plans set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies, so it's about finding the time really. It's something I'd be very keen to do."
This all sounds like an optimistic outlook for a hopeful SUPERMAN solo movie and it seems like a script is ripe for the taking by a screenwriter somewhere right now.
There may be some mixed opinions of Cavill's portrayal as Superman in MAN OF STEEL and BATMAN V. SUPERMAN but let's be honest is saying that is less Cavill's fault and more the fault of the writers as well as Snyder's direction. The director has received a good share of criticism with claims he has no real clue about Superman's character portrayal on the big screen.
As we all know opinions are in the eyes of each individual but Cavill needs to be shown as a happier Superman sooner than later. Maybe this happens in JUSTICE LEAGUE but any future solo Superman movie needs to be much lighter and happier than the angry Superman fans have seen in his last two big screen appearances.
