Ewan McGregor Clarifies OBI-WAN KENOBI: A STAR WARS STORY Rumor Talk and He's Still Interested in Returning

It wasn't long after Disney announced their purchase of Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise in October 2012 until rumors began circulating of all sorts for months and months. One rumor that has had legs is a possible Obi-Wan Kenobi solo movie with Ewan McGregor reprising his role from the Prequel Trilogy. Even the actor himself has stated how he's interested in returning to the role for a possible spin-off movie.

However, McGregor spoke with Collider to make sure it was known that he is not campaigning for the role and he has not been approached (yet?) for a potential OBI-WAN KENOBI: A STAR WARS STORY movie.

“If they asked me to, I would be happy to. But it looks like I am campaigning for it, just because I get asked about it, all the time. So, I would like it to be known that I don’t bring it up, at these interviews, of my own free will. I only respond to questions I’m asked to. I don’t know anything about it. They’ve never approached me about it.”

So McGregor is sorry that his past comments made it seem like he was actively pursuing this solo movie but at the same time he is still very interested in the role. Or at least that's his politically correct response publicly to the media.

The fans want it and Disney and Lucasfilm should listen because there's a built-in audience ready for another film with McGregor as Kenobi. And that usually means a high probability for box office success, too.
