STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS - Disney Continues Opening Big Movies Overseas Before it Releases in the U.S.
The United States is supposed to be the land of hope, but not per Disney if you're a U.S. moviegoer who hopes to see a big Disney movie before any other country as Lucasfilm is the next Disney-owned company who will release films earlier overseas. Marvel Studios has been doing it for several years now and Star Wars will also follow this path. (In all fairness The Force Awakens did film in the U.K. as is STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE right now.)
BBC News reported, and Lucasfilm has confirmed, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is opening in the U.K. on December 17. Sure it's only one day earlier than in the U.S. but that means many Star Wars fans in the U.S. will stay away from the web and social media to avoid spoilers. Plus, SlashFilm is reporting The Force Awakens opens in France a day earlier than in the U.K. on December 16.
So mark December 16-17 on your calendar as two days where you may need to unplug and go off-the-grid until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opens in U.S. theaters on December 18. However, there seems to be early 7 p.m. screenings in the U.S. on the 17th but France and the U.K. will most likely have similar early showtimes on the 15th and 16th, respectively.
