This isn't the first time there's been talk of how big STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS' worldwide opening weekend numbers could be because back in April there were a few reports that hit the web. Those way-too-early predictions of a potential $500 million worldwide opening came before Jurassic World broke nearly every opening weekend record domestically and Internationally. Jurassic World took in an amazing $524M worldwide in its first weekend.
Now the Star Wars talk is back as a new report, via Deadline, has adjusted the possible opening weekend. In a post-Jurassic World records world, Star Wars is projected to open at a whopping $615M worldwide. Breaking it down Star Wars is looking at a $300M domestic opening and a $315M International opening.
Those numbers seem doable for the most anticipated movie since Disney announced their acquisition of and plans to release more Star Wars films back in October 2012. Especially since the film will be on every single IMAX screen in the world for its opening weekend, and the first entire month of its release.
Jurassic World also holds the box office record for fastest movie to $1 billion in 13 days. That might be another record Star Wars should easily beat. But can it beat out James Cameron's Avatar which owns the No. 1 all-time spot grossing over $2.7B worldwide? That's a tough task for any movie to accomplish but if any movie has a viable chance to do it... it's STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS.
