STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Will Dominate All IMAX Screens For its First 4 Weeks

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone as the most anticipated movie of 2015 is taking over IMAX screens for a month. IMAX is giving up (pretty much) all of their large format screens to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS for its first four weeks of release.

The Hollywood Reporter writes:

"For Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Imax is going big — really big. For the first four weeks of its run, set to begin Dec. 18, J.J. Abrams' sequel will have all of Imax's large-format screens in North America and most of its foreign screens to itself. Imax reserving all of its screens for a single movie for a month is not unprecedented, but it is unusual. The company had a similar deal for the three Hobbit movies, but it struck that pact four years ago and hasn't made that type of commitment since."

IMAX has become a huge player in the box office stakes as their higher price helps movies make more money. Earlier this summer, Jurassic World opened to an amazing $44 million in IMAX alone during its record breaking opening weekend. That record probably won't last much longer as December 18 approaches.
